“If stylish home décor is just not your strong suit or the thought of finding the perfect window adornments and soft furnishings for your home leaves you feeling a little overwhelmed, you’re not alone. Let’s face it, in today’s information age there’s so much choice when it comes to interiors.

You only need to type in the words “interior design” to Pinterest and a whole smorgasbord of home furnishings and fittings will grace your screen.
Short of being able to find (or afford) your own personal home stylist, where’s a girl to turn?

Well, it just so happens that we know exactly where you need to go. It’s over to Maitland, to the lovely and somewhat providential new digs of Valley Vogue.”

We all like to be as comfortable as possible when we are at home, and one of the biggest contributors to this is temperature. Wouldn’t it be great if there was some energy efficient way in which we could achieve this? The good new is that blackout curtains have an excellent insulating benefit.  They are great at deflecting heat in summer & also at trapping in the warmth during winter. Whether you have air conditioning or not, the blockouts will make an impact on the feeling of any room you have them in. This is especially true for rooms that receives a high level of direct sunlight.

This doesn’t mean that you need to keep your windows fully closed up all year round. Layering the blockout with a sheer allows you to decide how much light and heat you want to let in, while also keeping things private. Depending on the aesthetic needs or requests of individual clients we  recommend having the soft sheer at the front and then colour matching the blockout lining to the sheer so that they can compliment each other & your room. The block out being against the window goes a long way in controlling the temperature of your environment.

If you are unsure of the best way to treat your window to maximise the insulation value without compromising on the look, just ask us and we can help you.

Sheers, whats the fuss?

The other day my sister in-law came over to visit & she started doing laps in & out of my front door, trying to figure out how these 'magical' curtains work. The curtains in question were the sheers in my lounge room.

I live right in the middle of Newcastle city in one of the many apartments, as a result I have at least a few hundred neighbours. I love inner city living, but I also love to have my privacy. None of us want to experience the dilemma of Monica & Rachel from Friends with their memorable neighbour 'ugly naked guy' & we defiantly don't want our neighbours getting to know us that well either. This is where sheers come to the rescue. Sheer curtains come in varying translucency, but in any case are the perfect way to maximise natural light while maintaining privacy. You won't have to sacrifice your view & it allows the sun to modestly enter with a light weight airy feeling that really softens your room. You may also choose to hang your sheer along with a block out curtain, this is especially popular in bedrooms. In doing so you will have light & privacy during the day, but this also allows you to close the block out when you want total privacy or to darken the room.  By adding this extra privacy to your home, you can't help but feel more comfortable & at peace. This is why sheers have become a staple in many homes.

Not only are sheers practical to have but they are also a really simple & stylish addition to any room, in any house, in almost any location. Sheer curtains look great in any style of home & can help to compliment your decorative design.  We always encourage our clients to take their sheers full height and either kiss the floor or beyond, they will make any house a home.

There is a lot of hype around linen fabric, but is it really as great as everyone says?

We are living in a time of keep cups and paperless mail. So we all like to try to be as environmentally friendly as possible, so it comes as great news to know that linen is one of the most biodegradable fabrics. This means guilt free, amazing sheer curtains, along with many other fantastic products that linen can be used for.

Linen is also a stronger fibre then cotton. It’s fibres have various lengths, most of which are long. All of this adds to the longevity of your linen sheers, so you can enjoy them longer. While direct sun can potentially shorten the life span of your linen it is very durable in many other way! (Contact one of our consultants to be sure Linen is right for you)

Our favourite thing about linen is the feeling it adds to any room you put it in. It’s able to turn a house into a home with its delightful texture. You can’t help but feel comfortable and at ease, when surrounded by the softness that linen brings into your space. It is an elegant & timeless feature to any home. One that all of us here at Valley Vogue have & love.
